This NEW Ideal Client Approach Will Change Your Coaching Business Forever

Today I'm going to walk you through creating your ideal client profile in a way, I’m positive, you’ve never heard before. By the end of this blog, you’ll understand who your ideal client is on a deeper level and how to find your ideal client hidden in the content you already have.

At the time of this blog, I’ve been a coach for just under 11 years, and there’s a LOT I’ve learned about building out a solid ideal client avatar.

Think of this as a mini life coach training where we’re going to cover the difference between an ideal client and a signature client, and how to attract the perfect coaching clients for you.

And be sure to stick around until the end because I’ll be sharing my favorite ideal client resource that will support you in knowing who your signature client is, having the perfect signature offer to share with that person, and also knowing how to create educational and intentional marketing content that sells the offer for you for years to come.

What is an Ideal Client?

Understanding the Ideal Client

An ideal client is a specific type of person within your niche who resonates mentally, emotionally, and energetically with you, your message, your online community, and your offers.

There are going to be a LOT of people in your niche because a niche is just an overarching, general idea of what you focus on in your online coaching business. For example, my overarching niche is business mentorship for online coaches.

You’ve heard the saying, “The riches are in the niches,” and from my experience, that’s absolutely correct.

To niche down, you’re going to get incredibly specific on the solution you’re offering and the audience you’re marketing that solution to.

Niching Down

My example of this is supporting online coaches (specific audience) in packaging their signature experiences and results into a signature coaching program. This way they can be known as THAT coach on their signature program topic (the solution I offer).

  • Broad Niche: Business mentorship
  • Specific Focus: Signature programs with online coaches

Even though my audience pool has decreased in number, it’s significantly increased in the targeted and more specific people I can support. These more targeted people are ideal clients, aka the people who find the solutions to their problems through our products, programs, and services.

The Levels of an Ideal Client

1. Surface Level – Basic Connection

At the most basic level, an ideal client is defined by surface-level demographics: age, gender, location, income… the kind of information you’d find on a basic intake form.

Why it’s insufficient: The connection often feels flat, “off” and distant because it lacks an understanding of who they are as a human, or it lacks emotional depth or heart connection.

2. Mind Level – Human to Human Connection

This level creates a human-to-human bond where potential clients feel seen, understood, and valued by you. This can be through your marketing content and/or working with you directly.

Your connection has an underlying tone of comfort and support, leading to a momentum in your relationship, ultimately resulting in the outcomes they were seeking when they found you.

3. Heart Level – Energetic Connection

The deepest level of connection is the energetic connection. This goes beyond shared personality traits and values to a place of profound and transformative resonance.

Your clients feel safe, stable, and secure with you as their coach and mentor, and also with themselves, leading to empowerment and a sense of wholeness.

What is a Signature Client?

A signature client goes beyond even the deepest level of an ideal client. It’s someone who feels like an absolute vibrational match, almost like soul family. Your intuition tells you that this partnership is a connection that’s meant to happen for the greater good of all involved.

Characteristics of a Signature Client

  • Mutual Growth: A relationship that transcends traditional client-coach dynamics, creating a space for mutual growth, expansion, and transformation.
  • Signature Energy: Your signature energy is the energy only you have that has culminated through a lifetime of your personal core signature experiences and results.

The Importance of Signature Coach Energy

Being in your Signature Coach Energy is crucial because that’s what magnetically draws in the perfect clients. You are the living example of the results your signature client can expect.

What Signature Coach Energy Feels Like to Your Clients:

  • Certain: What you're coaching & mentoring on is beyond "belief". It's embodied. It's who you are. It's a knowing.
  • Clear: You're not thinking your way through content; you're sharing from experience, results, and heart.
  • Real: Your coaching and mentorship isn’t just regurgitated information; it’s based on real experiences and results.
  • League of Your Own: Because you’re so certain, clear, and real, it makes you feel otherworldly and extraordinary.
  • Rare: There are a LOT of signature offers and coaching packages out there, but YOU, your signature experiences, your signature results, and the signature energy that comes from all of it could never be replicated or even imitated.

When you access and express your signature coach energy, it organically inspires your client to access the fulfillment and wholeness of who they are.

How to Identify Your Signature Clients

Start with Your Signature Program

When uncovering who your ideal client or signature client is, look closely at your signature program. This is where I have all my clients start!

Every signature program, signature offer, and/or coaching package will have a slightly different signature client because each offer will be focused on a specific level of readiness.

Consider Client Readiness

Example: The internal and external qualities of a coaching client who purchases a digital product under $50 would be different from someone who purchases a $15,000 1:1 coaching package.

You’re looking at the offer first and creating the client avatar based on the offer.

Your signature program was born from your life’s experiences and results, attracting clients on similar journeys, seeking the same transformations you’re now living.

And the best part is, your ideal client avatar is organically woven throughout your signature offer with the problems you're helping clients solve, the mindset they'll need to complete the coaching program, and their willingness to move beyond their self-imposed limitations on the specific topic you’re guiding your clients through.

So, by being a bit of a detective and intentionally observing the structure and content of your signature coaching program, you can pinpoint the traits and characteristics of the coaching clients who will benefit the most.

And remember, they’re the former version of you who is on the brink of transformation. So, think about where you were mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually when you were coming up to this tipping point.

  • What was your level of readiness to embrace the transformation?
  • How open were you to growth?
  • How determined were you to overcome habits and patterns?
  • Were you experiencing moments of courage and needing to face certain fears?
  • What were your levels of dedication and devotion?
  • Were you willing to shift what needed shifting even through discomfort?

However you answered these questions is how your current ideal client is feeling.

Your signature program serves as a mirror, reflecting all the internal and external qualities and readiness of your ideal clients, making it easier for you to identify and connect with them.

Steps to Developing Your Ideal Client Profile

Ideal Client Step #1: Prioritized Solutions

There are a couple different layers of the solutions your ideal clients want.

First, they’re having a very clear and real challenge in their life. Something they’ve most likely attempted to solve on their own through Googling, Youtubing, Podcasting, or searching on some other platform to help them try to figure this thing out.

The thing they’re trying to figure out is the end result of your signature coaching program. That’s the overall solution they’re prioritizing.

Then, from that overall solution comes a few more underlying solutions they might not realize they’re prioritizing, but come as a natural side effect of experiencing that first solution.

Here’s what I mean… experiencing the challenge, or not having the solution has created certain mindsets and feelings that likely feel like a misalignment. And when their thoughts and feelings are in conflict, it creates a conflict in their values and who they believe themselves to be.

So, in addition to desiring the overall solution your online coaching program offers, they’re also looking for these underlying solutions:

  • Alignment Of Values- You’ll want to know what they value (e.g., time, freedom, security) and support them in aligning with these values.
  • Emotional Balance- You’ll support them in coming back to connection, neutrality, peace.
  • Empowering Mindset-  They want to embody clarity and confidence.

Ideal Client Step #2: Time, Energy & Effort Investment

Determine the time, energy, and effort needed for clients to achieve the solutions and results. You’ll want to clearly define what it will take for them to come out of this coaching experience with you as the new human who has embodied these solutions.

Define the hours required for:

  • Watching & or listening to training content
  • Getting on 1:1 or group calls with you
  • Completing workbooks
  • Applying what they’re learning

Being clear on the time, energy and effort investment helps clients prepare for the level of commitment required to get results, and it also helps them know what to expect.

Ideal Client Step #3: Monetary Investment

Here’s the thing, Friend. If potential clients come to you and aren’t willing to monetarily invest in themselves, it’s not the right fit at that time.

Not only will your ideal client be able to pay for your services, they’ll genuinely be excited about it.

Because they’re not investing in YOU; they’re investing in themselves.

When you show up in clarity and certainty in valuing yourself and your time you’re setting an example and unconsciously giving them permission to do the same.

This attracts clients who are serious about investing in their transformation.

As we wrap this up, remember that you’re only ever meeting a former version of yourself. When you maintain the belief that whoever comes to you is whole and capable, and if you can get results, then they can get results, you’re going to magnetize the most perfectly aligned clients into your products, programs, and services.
